ABSTRACT

Chapter 10 relates the results and the previous discussion chapter to the hotly debated topic of bilingual or multilingual advantages, here specifically in the context of additional foreign language acquisition. It briefly comments on bilingual advantages in general and zooms in on unbalanced bilingual heritage speakers in particular. Thus, it examines the role of the previously acquired languages concerning heightened metalinguistic awareness, and addresses the specific foreign language learning environment found in Germany. In the final section, it offers some implications for foreign language teaching to accommodate the increasingly heterogeneous and diverse student population found in German classrooms and beyond.
