ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 represents the foundational part of the empirical study. It outlines the research design, introduces the project E-LiPS, and discusses the learner corpus methodology used for the analysis. The data collection, transcription, and coding scheme are provided and supported with selected examples. A detailed biographical examination of the participants whose productive data is included in the learner corpus follows thereafter. This section includes background variables such as age of onset of learning German, age of the participants, attitudes toward English, and socio-economic status. The chapter ends by summarizing the main points and by explaining and justifying the predicted outcome of the following analysis.
