ABSTRACT

The field of psychology and psychotherapy has attempted to help people understand challenging and difficult clients through theories of resistance. However, these theories have not provided or maintained an active plan of approach as to how to help clients in their resistance achieve success in therapy. The field of counseling and psychotherapy has come a long way since the days of Freud. Yet in many ways, there is still some ground to cover. Diagnosing is not all bad. In its most basic form, it helps the practitioner understand what they’re looking at so they can formulate the best treatment protocol. Certain disorders came with specific protocols, which usually meant medication as the first line of treatment. Clients have come to the author with stories about how their last therapist said their partner was a narcissist or had a personality disorder, so they should leave the relationship.
