ABSTRACT

The preliminary returns of the 1946 census give the Native population of the Tlôkwa Reserve as 2,318 (of whom 325 were outside the Protectorate on the day of the census). 1 These people were all classed as Tlôkwa. The tribe is divided into five wards, all located in the village of Moshaweng (Gaberones). Moreover, a feature not found elsewhere, the heads of the wards all belong to the ruling line of the tribe, i.e. they are of genuine Tlôkwa stock.
