ABSTRACT
The preliminary returns of the 1946 census give the Native population of the Malete Reserve as 9,469 (of whom 1,772 were outside the Protectorate on the day of the census). These people are all classed as Malete. In the final returns they were included, together with the Tlôkwa and others, in the total for the Gaberones District generally; it is consequently not possible to state if the figures just given were subsequently amended.
