ABSTRACT

The government, with regional headquarters at Dueim, saw as its first task the need to convince people to accept the dam project by assuring them of fair compensation for the land and a rosy future, with the promise of social and economic securities that their environment had hitherto lacked. In the post-dam period, however, through considerable advancement of farm technology in the schemes and the technological control of the Nile waters by the dam, agricultural production has become highly secure and dependable. The White Nile flows from Lake Victoria in Uganda and enters the Sudan to join the Blue Nile at Khartoum, after which they form together the river Nile. The Nile passes northwards through the Sudan and Egypt before it flows into the Mediterranean. The deteriorating sanitary conditions have obliged the government to introduce health services on a wide scale. Since the early forties many dispensaries, hospitals, and veterinary units have been established throughout the region.
