ABSTRACT

This short, final chapter is about how ethical behaviour and principles espoused by the school can be assimilated by students. It takes two key perspectives (ethics that emanate from faith, and those that do not). It compares and contrasts them, concluding that both views are working towards the same fundamental goals. The work of the author is compared to that of the Roman Catholic scholar and headteacher, Mark Ellul. The chapter proffers four aspirations: ethical Awareness, ethical Literacy, ethical Practice and ethical Sufficiency (ALPS). The book ends on an optimistic note, but one involving ethical responsibility; it recognises that for many students, who may be socially or otherwise disadvantaged, teachers are indeed their last hope in making a success of their lives.
