ABSTRACT

How to plot a course through the teaching profession is a concern for many teachers, and for middle leaders who aspire to move on. The chapter begins by recommending self-assessment as a first step on the job application road. The chapter asks: What are the ethics around advertising, applying for and appointing people to new jobs? Who is responsible? What happens when it all goes wrong? What constitute ethical career decisions? These questions are considered, mainly through real but generic examples. The chapter looks at the way that UNESCO is trying to improve and expand career opportunities for teachers and make the job more varied.
