ABSTRACT

This chapter includes ideas for mapping under each of the suggested mapping areas. Mapping cultural mind-sets can be an opportunity for a community to mature by evaluating whether some aspects of its cultural mind-set need changing. The architecture conveyed a strong message about the culture of the council. The workshop can be run with mixed interest groups, or can be run with separate special interest groups. The added advantage of separate groups is that each workshop session takes on a life and direction of its own and produces different results reflecting the makeup and experiences of the group. The cultural planning process is designed to enable meaningful community participation in all aspects of assessment and planning. The outcomes from the qualitative assessment of cultural resources and assets should be documented as an information paper that can be distributed to participants before the next stage, strategy development.
