ABSTRACT

Public Transportation, a below ground train station: located in New York City, this interior train station opened in 2017 on the upper east side of Manhattan with high ceilings and modern design. A train station is a public site with ADA compliance for walking and visual impairments. The train station has two levels below the ground level. In the public space there are murals, vents, guard rails, large beams, and an overlook to the lower level. There is a maintenance closet, private restroom, and private office on the higher level. Water and electric access are available for cleaning personnel. The ventilation system of the subway filters and exchanges the below-ground air with fresh air. The lower level has stairwells, escalators, and an elevator, and trains going in opposite directions. The news stand on the lower level can hold multiple people in it at one time and the top of it can be seen from the upper level.
