ABSTRACT

This chapter explores interior restaurant layouts with varying lighting. Restaurants are unique designs in that they are spaces which have constant turnover and change. Tables are re-arranged frequently to account for different sized events and gatherings. Restaurants vary in their opening hours. Daytime through nighttime hours, some open late into the night, can be expected. Lighting plays an important role in enhancing the atmosphere of the space. The lighting, both existing sunlight and artificial light, is designed to create a mood in which people are comfortable to eat, talk, and gather. The great variety of locations means designing different styles of spaces where people are comfortable with different lighting and settings. Cleaning of the space is daily, with cleaners, some with chemicals and some natural, used on different surfaces. Contaminants from the outdoor air also can play a role in restaurants. Windows and doors may be open frequently throughout the year allowing outdoor air to mix with indoor air.
