ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter to The Educators Guide to Participatory Creativity provides context for the central concept of this book: participatory creativity. Along the way, the introduction offers the what, why, and how of participatory creativity, including a brief discussion of the genesis of the concept, the necessity for a reframing of invention and innovation in education, and the ways in which the field of education—and other domains—have picked up this idea and run with it. This first chapter also introduces the authors and includes a “who should read this book” section to invite a variety of readers in and a “how to use this book” section to guide readers’ experiences. To best orient readers to the structure of the book, the introduction closes with a road map to the chapters ahead.
