ABSTRACT

The next three chapters focus on broadcast news writing. In this chapter, we deconstruct the voiceover and update traditional broadcast news writing with the step-by-step process of using video to drive the writing and writing to drive the editing. This chapter addresses the importance of having plenty of video and pad to never go to black on-air and how crucial natural sound is to every piece of video. The reader will also learn about timing video and writing to the second. Video is not always available, so this chapter shows how different visuals can be used in storytelling from maps to over the shoulder and full screen graphics, and props.
