ABSTRACT

In previous chapters we have established the extent of vulnerability in very young children and how we recognise different types of abuse that they may be presented with. We have also begun to consider effective strategies that early years practitioners can apply and engage with to help and protect children with whom they work.

This chapter continues to emphasise the identify component and focusses on specific risk factors that present to children and how they manifest through child abuse and neglect. We will look at some key themes to support practitioners’ knowledge with focus on some relevant subjects relating to their impact upon young children.
