ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents gaining familiarity with student's university or college environment. It facilitates the information-seeking process so that you will select the right course and then organise it to suit student's study purpose. The chapter takes this a step further in terms of preparing the students to take up the role of part-time student, both mentally, by exploring learning styles, critical reasoning processes and skills development, and physically, by organising student's environment to enable you to pursue student's study objectives. It turns to the practical aspect of time management and how to organise a busy schedule so that the study experience does not turn out to be a stressful one. The chapter deals with the use of technological tools as part of student's studies, including e-mail, the Internet and electronic databases.
