ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to cite various sources of information, both print and electronic based, following the conventions of the three main referencing systems: the Harvard Referencing System (Intext or Author-Date System), the Footnote/Endnote System (or Oxford System) and the American Psychological Association System. Referencing is a crucial part of academic study. It demonstrates that you are aware of the arguments involved in an issue and can add to them through student's own ideas. A full reference (citation) includes the source’s author, publication date, title of the text, publisher and place published. Reviewing student's course textbooks will give you an idea of how an author cites other sources in a reference. The presentation details of a reference list or bibliography depend on the referencing system adopted for the body of the text. The main feature is that the citations are presented in alphabetical order according to the author’s surname.
