ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at strategies for preparing for exams and strategies for sitting them. Exam times are often times of nervousness or even stress, but there are advantages to taking them. Exams mean that student's assessment is undertaken in a short period rather than spread over weeks. Effective revision takes place at the end of every week or two and at the end of every topic studied during the year (or semester) so that student are constantly thinking about their work and are in a position to see how issues are evolving. This means that not only will student's participation in the course be enhanced, but student's exam preparation will also be more effective—student will not have to revise the whole course in the week before the exams. A useful way to practise for exams is to work through past exams (drawing on the questions that cover the topics covered in student's course) under simulated exam conditions.
