ABSTRACT

The chapter will focus on the importance of social-emotional learning (SEL) and its significance in the digital environment. As educators, to do the best for our students, we need to be able to identify personal strengths and weaknesses in our teaching practice and reflect so that we can best provide for our students. In our classrooms, we need to help our students to develop these same skills by providing opportunities for them to build their own metacognitive practices and develop skills that are transferable beyond high school. Ideas for helping students to collaborate, to promote student agency, and build essential SEL skills will be shared in this chapter and be applicable to in-person and virtual learning, with quick ideas to get started and some educator vignettes for additional examples.
