ABSTRACT
A number of related debates inform this chapter, with one of the main focal points for the press being the future role of Trident in an independent Scotland. This contentious issue generated myriad opinions, becoming central to discussion of Scotland’s post-independence military prospects. Membership of both Nato and the European Union (EU) also drew extensive comment, with the presentation of the European question notable in the aftermath of the 2016 Brexit vote.
