ABSTRACT

This final main chapter highlights and critiques the level to which Alex Salmond came to become framed as synonymous with independence, a trend which was especially noticeable in those titles which were explicitly anti-independence. Much of the coverage was of course negative, variously painting Salmond as untrustworthy, overly ambitious or even dictatorial. His resignation did, however, prompt a brief outpouring of praise for Salmond, with these contrasting observations an important aspect of the analysis presented.
