ABSTRACT

The reality is that for many early years educators, their experience of different types of SEND is when they actually meet the children, which means they are simultaneously required to learn everything they can about the child and their needs while maintaining high-quality education and care. When a child has a disability or specific care needs, it is important for the setting to complete a care plan so that they can establish what is within their expertise, and where they may need supports. Educators will often feel quite confused about what is expected of them, and the lines become blurred between educators stretching themselves too thinly to meet all the demands of the job or generally withdrawing as much from tasks that they feel are too much. Supervision should contribute towards an educators wellbeing because it is a process in which they have a safe space to reflect upon their role.
