ABSTRACT

The opening chapter introduces geopolitics as a component of the sub-discipline of human geography and introduces the idea of a geographic perspective. Three forms of geopolitics are defined: Classical, critical, and feminist. These three approaches are situated within a brief history of geopolitical thought. The definition of geopolitics used throughout the book is presented, with reference to the axioms of human geography. The chapter concludes by outlining the structure of the book and suggesting how the reader may follow the logic through the sequence of chapters.
