ABSTRACT
Remember, originally, all films were short films. A film was about as long as the amount of celluloid on a reel, around ten minutes. In the early 1900s, people began to realize that they could start combining these ten-minute reels into longer films. Up through the 1970s, it was not uncommon for a studio-produced short film to accompany a feature in a theater.
