ABSTRACT
The role of a private security company and the private security detail is to protect the client. The best way to achieve this is to avoid any attacks or other hostile situations wherever possible. To accomplish this, the security detail members must be able to recognize any danger signs or warning indicators that are present. Danger signs or indicators can be broken down into three main categories for use: obvious signs, situational signs and behavioral signs. The key to situational awareness is to recognize the various danger signs and indicators that are presented before an attack or when other hostile actions take place. Another trait that needs to be developed by the individual security provider regardless of the type of security detail is to become third-party aware. Many times a protection detail will focus on the clients and those people moving with the clients, which causes them to lose awareness of their surroundings.
