ABSTRACT

There will be times and places when a basic security detail will not be enough to guarantee the safety of a client. During situations like these, added security might be needed to give that extra layer of protection to protect the clients and have a successful operation. This extra layer of protection can include three things: a Security Advance Patrol (SAP), a Counter Assault Team (CAT), or a Quick Reaction Force. Most CAT/SAPs will consist of ten men in two vehicles, but this is a decision that each company will make. Some have both vehicles behind the convoy, others use one vehicle in front as a SAP, and one in the rear as a CAT. The type of visible profile the CAT/SAP will use needs to be well thought on based upon the current mission, operating environment, threat/risk assessment, and local area knowledge gained from the advance and the route surveys.
