ABSTRACT

An advance allows the maximum protection and convenience for the client and a smooth transition and operating environment for the security detail. The advance’s responsibilities also include all those things internal to the operations site and/or facilities, including floor plans, elevators, seating of guests, receiving lines, rooms lists for each person and organization’s location, maintaining the keys with an accurate sign out log, firefighting equipment, and a safe room with communications for the client. One of the most critical parts of the advance is the pre-advance work that is done. Each site and event itinerary and agenda should have identified points of contact (POC), with room numbers, building locations, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. Having this information will allow the reader to know the POC, so the reader can schedule any appointments before they leave to begin the advance work.
