Introduction

This introductory chapter outlines the stakes for using Afrofuturism as a black feminist visual theory. It identifies key literature and ties them to the aims of the book, which are to identify black women as progenitors of Afrofuturism, then use Afrofuturism as a way to read images of the black female body and identity.
