aciela is a seventeen-year veteran teacher who specializes in teaching students who are English and Spanish learners. Her conception of how it all works is shockingly simple. She expects herself to successfully teach all her students. So she uses data to check and see if that’s happening. Like all teachers who teach the way Graciela does, she eventually needs to see how well her plan is working. Organizing it in this way helps educators get clear on what’s practical and what’s not. It helps them avoid vague connections between what people are trying to accomplish and the evidence people use to support decisions. The principal wants to choose content that’s meaningful to the staff. Over three quarters of the staff mentioned behavior in a survey as an area they wanted to improve in. The benefit of getting feedback also goes in the other direction.
