ABSTRACT

Krista, a middle school teacher, reminded the author of this when she shared her stories with the author in the fall of 2020. Krista was part of the student success team, a team of educators at her school site that developed interventions for students who needed a little more instructional support. Krista fully embraced the benefits of the student success team, and she made practical use of data by matching it to its best function. Put another way, Krista knew the best data for the student success team was student-level data. When some educators think of data, they think of formal data sources, like statewide testing results. It’s true that student-level data comes in formal flavors, like standardized assessments. Student-level data gives people information about an individual student to help people make decisions for that individual student.
