ABSTRACT

The principles and practice of Fascism are also unlikely to prove a mere flash in the pan. Communism today in Russia is a religion. The ikons of Marx and the Communist Fathers have taken the place of the pictures of Christ and the saints. It is the fact that it has achieved this fervent activism that makes Russian Communism an infinitely more powerful force than German Socialism, with its respectable rationalism, materialist philosophy, and doctrine of economic determinism. Communism offers itself as a world religion of social justice. Any humane man would desire to avoid shooting either a Welshman of Glamorgan or an Indian of Bombay, either a Norman of Normandy or a Norman of Debrett's Peerage. The Communist does not desire that these steps shall be taken because they are contrary to his religion which he fears to contaminate by compromising with Capitalism to keep it on its feet.
