ABSTRACT
The earth has enough for everyone’s need, but not for everyone’s greed. With new capitalism, there has been an evident shift in generational timing when younger generations that have been brought up since the 1980s with new technologies have learnt to live in a different time that is organised through screens. Economics as a discipline had been co-opted into legitimating new market dominated globalised capitalism, and many economists were financially benefitting for their work for corporations. Enrico and his wife Flavia who worked as a presser in a dry-cleaning plant were part of a generation, as Sennett notes, who lived with a linear sense of time in their lives. The upheavals of the Great Depression and the Second World War had faded, unions protected their jobs and Enrico ‘knew precisely when he would retire and how much money he would have’.
