ABSTRACT

In practical terms, a media outlet collaboration was the answer but even though both papers are owned by NewsCorp it had never been done to his knowledge. The media outlet collaboration on a story in the UK that was researched and written in Australia led eventually to national reforms of child protection across the world and called into question the seal of the confessional that had been established in 1603. Richard Baker explained the reason why Fairfax was willing to let the reporters establish a media outlet collaboration with the ABC to gain access to radio listeners and viewers Australia-wide. Richard Baker and Nick McKenzie won a Walkley Award for Investigative Journalism in 2011 for their long-running investigation into Securency. Three main benefits of organisational collaboration are revealed in this research: financial/economic benefits; improved audience impact and longevity of coverage; and greater political and social impact.
