ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 focuses on how instructors can use project-based learning and scenario-based learning approaches within their online courses to facilitate how students can apply what they’ve learned. Applying these approaches, students will have the opportunity to see how the decisions they make impact authentic situations, encouraging students to become active learners in the classroom. Key topics covered in Chapter 3 include virtual labs, artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality that allow students to evaluate their individual performance and track completion, promote innovation in their capability of adopting different perspectives, and explore interesting concepts at their own pace. This chapter also describes student motivation in project-based learning and scenario-based learning, with special attention to intrinsic and extrinsic motivators of students in online settings.
