ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the evolution of the policy framework with a specific focus on the credit policies around the MSME sector in India since independence. Further, we trace the recent policy initiatives to provide credit to weaker sections of the society including SC/ST and women enterprises. The overall discussion in the chapter unambiguously suggests that there have been considerable changes in the policies and programmes introduced to address the credit needs of MSMEs in India.
