ABSTRACT

Kindness is one of the qualities that differentiates a manager from a leader. The former gets the things done, where the latter builds an engaged team. Kind leadership is not about words on a page or in mission, vision and values statements. It’s about action. The Five Key Characteristics of a Kind Leader start with action words and go on to describe the way leaders should act to both model kind leadership for others and to create a kind culture. The first two characteristics of Kind Leaders have to do with modeling kind behavior in a deliberate manner. The next two characteristics of Kind Leaders are focused on people, both on followers and on the leader themselves. The last characteristic of Kind Leaders is that they pay just as much attention to how outcomes and results are achieved as to the outcomes and results themselves.
