ABSTRACT

The concepts of the Disseminated Self and psychic configurations presented in this book clearly require further development, on both the clinical and theoretical levels, and they definitely could benefit from transdisciplinary approaches. Complex dynamic systems theories could provide an adequate frame in this direction. Scarfone’s presentation of the transduction process as a development of Laplanche’s generalized seduction theory tries to think how primary traces of experience may become “psychic”. Virole’s works have developed for a decade a concept of Self which has some links with my propositions but integrates it as a component of a more global psychic complex system. Transduction could be viewed as another way of approaching Winnicott’s transitional functions, which I see as central in the psychic configuration model. Virole’s concept of psychic attractors, already mentioned by Houzel, are a second core concept in the organization model of the Disseminated Self.
