ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the proximities that can be found between the model of the Disseminated Self and certain aspects of Bion’s and Bleger’s concepts are discussed. The “vertexes”, the “models”, the “chosen facts” and particularly the “constant conjunctions”, especially in Bion’s Transformations , appear to me as approaching the polytopic view of a “constantly changing personality” I have in mind. On the other hand, Bleger’s concepts of ambiguity and syncretic organization are very helpful to give a full place to the central role of un-differentiated psychic parts in individual and social organizations. From the technical viewpoint of the treatment of symbiotic organizations, Bleger introduces the idea of a splitting in the analyst’s functioning, which enables him to enter symbiosis and to remain able to interpret it.
