ABSTRACT

Given the scale and speed of its spread, the Covid-19 pandemic placed significant strains on healthcare systems across the world. In order to preserve healthcare capacity, governments across the world converted existing urban infrastructure such as convention centres, schools, and hotels into makeshift healthcare facilities. In this chapter, we discuss Singapore’s efforts to mobilise its urban infrastructure to create extra healthcare capacity during the pandemic. This chapter also addresses the considerations that may be required for such urban infrastructure to continue playing a public health role in future pandemics.
