ABSTRACT

This chapter works out elements of Erich Fromm’s theory that can inform a Marxist-humanist, critical theory of communication. The focus is on communication (Section 2.2), ideology (Section 2.3), and technology (Section 2.4). Each of the three main sections in this chapter consists of two sub-sections: The first sub-section presents Fromm’s main arguments on the theme addressed in the section. The second sub-section updates Fromm’s arguments and presents the present author’s Frommian approach.
