ABSTRACT
This chapter works out elements of Georg Lukács’s and Lucien Goldmann’s theories that can inform a Marxist-humanist, critical theory of communication.
Section 6.2 asks what elements of communication we can find in Lukács Eigenart des Ästhetischen. Section 6.3 engages with elements in Goldmann’s work that contribute to the foundations of a critical theory of communication. The conclusion (Section 6.4) summarises the main and points out the relevance of the two thinkers’ humanist Marxism.
