ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 explores the sustainability of populations, starting with an analysis of how large populations can be seen as a problem. We then consider how patterns of consumption can be more significant than population size per se, introducing a social justice aspect to the analysis. The second part of the chapter applies these theoretical perspectives to the issues of finite resources and food and agriculture.
