ABSTRACT
Chapter 8 begins our analysis of health at the population scale. We focus initially on summarizing population health using indicators such as life expectancy and mortality rates. In the second part of the chapter, we analyze changing patterns in health, focusing on the epidemiologic transition from deaths being caused largely by infectious to non-infectious causes.
