ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews all of the Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs): Perinatal depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, bipolar, and psychosis. Each section starts with attention grabbing questions that are identifiable to a reader struggling with that particular issue. The symptoms of the mood are listed, followed by a vignette that provides a relatable example. Throughout the chapter there are informational boxes that provide quick, enlightening nuggets of information. Each specific section provides prevalence rates of the disorder to again emphasize that these women are not suffering alone. The activity section helps the reader focus on why they picked up this workbook in the first place. It helps them identify what is bothering them with a deeper level of understanding and self-exploration. By having them list their emotions and feelings, physical symptoms, and thoughts, we help them better understand their specific struggles and how to manage them. This is an empowering chapter, rich with important education for our reader!
