ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 introduces conceptual change theory (CCT) in the form of framework theories. It discusses the literature on CCT and how that line of study can inform the training process. Learners hear content through a set of filters that are derived in part from the cognitive conceptual frameworks that they have developed over time. This chapter includes both an anecdotal portrayal of workplace conceptual frameworks, and then follows-up with the results of a study in the workplace in which employee learners discuss their perceptions of workplace training in-depth. Chapter 6 includes both theory and research and presents some guidelines for practice as the book transitions to the more practice-based second section.
