ABSTRACT

Quiara Alegría Hudes is the only Latina writer to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (2012) for her much-heralded intergenerational play, Water by the Spoonful. Hudes works within multiple literary genres including theatre, film, and narrative storytelling as well as serving as a college professor at Wesleyan University. Her plays have been performed throughout the world and include the librettos for stage and screen versions of In the Heights and the semi-autobiographical trilogy which includes Water by the Spoonful, Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue, and The Happiest Song Plays Last. Hudes trained as a composer and has collaborated with luminaries including Lin-Manuel Miranda and the Cleveland Orchestra.
