ABSTRACT

Sara Joffré’s vast contributions to the field of Latin American theatre have inspired young generations to follow her steps. She is known as a groundbreaking director, critic, researcher, editor, playwright, and promoter of Peruvian theatre. Many of her plays criticize and expose Peru’s social, political, economic, gender-related issues, and environmental maladies. Furthermore, Joffré was an advocate for emerging artists who needed to showcase their work. Her most important legacies were the creation of the Theatre Festival Muestra de Teatro Peruano (1974–present) and the edition of the journal Muestra: La Revista de los Autores de Teatro Peruano.
