ABSTRACT

Award-winning composer, lyricist, playwright, performer, and producer, Lin-Manuel Miranda is one of the most recognized theatre celebrities in the twenty-first century. Known for his Broadway musicals In the Heights (2008) and Hamilton (2015), Miranda has opened a myriad of possibilities for actors of color to be on stage, expanded casting practices, and extended the work of theatre off the stage, into cinema, the streets, and the virtual world with his viral social media presence. Most notably, his work has incited critical conversations about the responsibility, significance, and fraught complexities of narrating Latinx and non-Latinx experiences through and with bodies of color.
