ABSTRACT

One of the most prolific and well-known Venezuelan playwrights working outside of the country today, Gustavo Ott has built a formidable career on his literary passions. His works include over fifty plays with translations in fourteen languages. Most well-known for what he coined as the “Latin American macabre,” Ott developed his plays from investigative journalism and a concern for pathologies of power. His more recent writing is now more dedicated to a search for a universal poetics of beauty in times of existential crisis. Ott is also a director and novelist with multiple awards across the range of his artistic pursuits.
