ABSTRACT

Teatro de los Andes took off when Argentine playwright and actor César Brie arrived in Bolivia in 1991, establishing a commune in Yotala, near Sucre. Through a series of plays, especially the Political Trilogy (La ilíada; En un sol amarillo: memorias de un temblor; and Otra vez Marcelo), they focused on the dirty war led by the recent military dictatorships underscoring the high degree of corruption the society endured at the time. After Brie’s departure, in 2010, the group has been headed by other members of the ensemble continuing their efforts to stage plays that deal with relevant issues.
