ABSTRACT

Born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lola Arias is part of a wave of theatre directors, writers, and creators, born during the dictatorship (1976–1983), who are associated with a “post-trauma” generation. For over twenty years, she has managed to reshape understandings of documentary theatre worldwide. Her tantalizing repertoire of theatrical plays, songs, poems, installations, live concerts, video games, and urban performances blurs the lines between reality and fiction, stage and screen, fantasy and activism. Her projects have traveled around the Americas, Europe, and Asia, making Arias one of the most important contributors to contemporary theatre coming from Latin America.
